Jean Thomas went to work at Marvel Comics as an office assistant to Stan Lee in 1968, as the replacement for "Fabulous Flo" Steinberg, shortly after she married Roy Thomas, her first husband. In the 1970s she co-created Werewolf by Night in Marvel Spotlight #2 and the ongoing series Night Nurse. Both those series have been featured on television; in addition, her Night Nurse character Christine Palmer has been featured in both the Doctor Strange MCU films.
During the 1970s, she also wrote Spidey Super Stories #1-15, Night Nurse #1-4, several parody pieces for Crazy Magazine, and romance stories in My Love and Our Love Stories. She also appeared in cameos in Avengers #83, Marvel Feature #1 (the first Defenders story), Sub-Mariner #19 and others.
Taking a dramatically different path in life and career, she proceeded to edit for the TV Dawn to Dusk magazine and for the American Journal of Nursing company (irony is not lost), and then to do public affairs, fundraising and marketing for social service agencies and historic New York City teaching hospitals. She has “hidden in plain sight,” sometimes living mere blocks from the Marvel offices with this secret identity for decades.
